Oh snap. Two months of training have come and gone and race week is finally here! I haven’t experienced race week jitters since last November when I ran the Gobbler Grind Half Marathon. I’ve been training hard but not in the traditional sense. Weekends this winter were rough. I am a wimp when it comes to cold weather so I swapped out my normal running routine and added more cross training and HIIT training.
I’m currently in taper-mode and am actively resting my bum hamstring. I went for a slow two mile run last night to shake everything out but my legs still feel a little tired from my 10 mile run on Sunday. My guess is that I am also a little dehydrated too from my teatox so I am currently chugging H2O.
I ran Kansas City’s Big 12 5k last year with Chance’s mom and some of her friends so when they added the 12k option, I knew it would be great prep for the Huntington Beach half coming up in late April. The course is new this year but overall you get a great tour of downtown Kansas City. Each participant receives a hoodie and finisher’s medal + a free beer post race.
The weather tomorrow is going to be phenom! If you want to participate you can register late today (3/13) at Ultramax Sports in Prairie Village.
Wish me luck!
